Old Town
Goslar’s Old Town was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992 due to its exceptional state of preservation, featuring more than 1,500 half-timbered houses from different periods. A variety of fascinating themed tours, for example with the merchant Berthold or Monk Wilfried, bring the history of the Middle Ages to life.
Kaiserpfalz und Domvorhalle
The majestic Imperial Palace (Kaiserpfalz), built between 1040 and 1050, is a must-see for every visitor to Goslar. For more than 200 years, important chapters of German history were written here during numerous Imperial Diets and royal assemblies. At almost the same time, Emperor Henry III commissioned the construction of the Collegiate Church of St. Simon and St. Jude at the foot of the Imperial Palace.
In 1820, the church, which had fallen into disrepair, was demolished, leaving only its entrance hall. Today, the Imperial Palace also hosts numerous concerts and prestigious events, including the annual presentation of the Kaiserring art prize.
The Huldigungssaal (Hall of Homage) in Goslar’s Town Hall was established as a council chamber between 1505 and 1520. It is a unique gem of Late Gothic interior art, with each individual painting being a high-quality work of art that contributes to the overwhelming overall impression. Visitors can experience the Huldigungssaal in an authentic replica, where they can even take a seat on the benches once occupied by the distinguished town councillors.
The Ten Ore Blocks represent ten centuries of the close connection between mining and the city of Goslar, creating a bridge between the past and the present. Each of the ore blocks, which are located throughout the city, features a handprint embedded into the stone as a metaphor for the work of the miners.
